Sport Vision Options

Optimal eyesight is very important for sports vision, and depending on the sport you practice, there are different vision needs. Tennis, basketball, and field sports athletes all require expert hand eye coordination and aim. Athletes whose sports take place over a long distance, such as golfers and rowers, may require prescription eyewear to stay competitive. Swimmers and divers also benefit from having custom goggles to be able to see clearly and accurately while in the water.

Not only will having the proper sports eyewear improve your performance, it can also reduce the risk of injury. Swimming and diving goggles can also be fitted with your prescription to give you the freedom to enjoy your favourite sports.

Protect Your Eyes From Computer Screens

In the digital age, it can be almost impossible to avoid screens. Many people find themselves using a computer all day at work, and then returning home and using computers, tablets, and smartphones for recreation. While the advent of technology certainly makes life more convenient in some ways, it can also be damaging for our eyes.

We have a list of tips that can help reduce the discomfort of looking at screens and protect your eyes.

  • Sit far enough away from the screen. This is usually considered at least an arm's length away from the screen, but does depend on the size of the screen.
  • Adjust the brightness of your device. Phones, tablets, laptops, and computer monitors all have options to adjust the brightness and contrast of your screen. As a general rule, if you are in a low light environment you probably don't need the brightness all the way up, however if you are in a brightly lit area you may need to make the screen brighter to compensate for glare.
  • An easy way to test if your desk top computer is positioned correctly is to try and high-five your computer screen with a full arm extension, if you are able to reach the screen easily, you're sitting too close.
  • Take regular breaks and avoid glare from windows and lights.
  • See if your device has a “night-shift” mode to automatically reduce brightness in the evening
  • Consider wearing blue-light blocking glasses to reduce eyestrain
